Valerie Charles

Valerie Charles, a Partner with StoneTurn, has more than a decade of experience in advising and defending companies under investigation, as well as those focused on implementing and improving their corporate compliance programs. She has deep experience serving both as outside counsel and as an in-house compliance leader. Valerie also has extensive expertise leveraging technology in both proactive and reactive compliance matters. Valerie is committed to demonstrating corporate commitment to interested stakeholders and enforcement agencies and to implementing compliance-related best practices for her clients. Her work includes counseling clients internationally across a wide spectrum of risk, including anti-corruption, antitrust, anti-money laundering, privacy, cyber-security, data protection, corporate governance, and environmental and corporate social responsibility. Valerie helps companies develop, implement and enhance effective corporate compliance and ethics programs that meet government expectations; handle due diligence relating to M&A transactions; and address third-party and supply chain risk issues. Previously, Valerie served as the in-house compliance leader for a Swiss security company. In this role, she developed and led a worldwide ethics and compliance program with a focus on anti-corruption and export control compliance. Valerie was also integral in the creation and development of a corporate compliance consulting practice in an international law firm. She has overseen investigations spanning multiple countries and secured non-prosecution agreements with the Department of Justice and resolved inquiries with the Office of Defense Trade Controls Compliance (DTCC). Immediately prior to joining StoneTurn, Valerie served on the global management team of a compliance technology company. There, she had the unique experience of working with over 200 global compliance programs to identify ways to improve, streamline, and operationalize processes. Valerie is a well-known thought leader in corporate compliance and related technologies and has moderated panels in the Americas and in Europe, with a particular expertise in operationalizing global programs.
