Jason Cromartie

Deputy Assistant Director, FBI

Jason Cromartie currently serves as the Deputy Assistant Director of the FBI’s Inspection Division or INSD. The division performs mission-critical roles which include ensuring enterprise-wide compliance and strategic improvement of performance by conducting internal investigations, use-of-enforcement investigations, internal audits, and conducting legal risk mitigation. Prior to this role, Mr. Cromartie was a Supervisory Inspector in INSD where he led evaluations of field office operations. Mr. Cromartie entered on duty with the FBI as a Special Agent in 2005, reported to the San Antonio Field Office, and investigated national security matters. He also served as an Assistant WMD Coordinator and a member of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team. Mr. Cromartie also had temporary assignments in Iraq, and at FBIHQ in the Counterterrorism Division (CTD). In 2012, Mr. Cromartie was selected as a Supervisory Special Agent (SSA) at FBI Headquarters, CTD. While there, he oversaw operations to facilitate intelligence development and disrupt extremist threats. In 2014, he returned to the San Antonio field office and led the Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) in Austin, Texas. His team responded to active shooter incidents and was recognized in 2015 by the International Association of the Chiefs of Police. In 2017, Mr. Cromartie deployed overseas as part of the International Operations Division. Reporting as an Assistant Legal Attaché in Riyadh, he was a representative to Saudi Arabia and Yemen. In 2019, he became the Legal Attaché, or the senior FBI representative in the United Arab Emirates, where he oversaw the office teams in Abu Dhabi and Dubai and led collaboration efforts with senior US government and foreign officials. His teams enhanced information sharing, disrupted terrorist and organized crime threats, returned fugitives to the US, coordinated law enforcement efforts related to the Abraham Accords in 2020 and the signing of a Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty in 2022. In 2022, Mr. Cromartie was promoted to Assistant Special Agent in Charge in the Boston field office where he directed the branch responsible for Counterterrorism and Crisis Management for the New England states of Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island. Mr. Cromartie is a graduate of the University of Dayton in International Studies and served five years as a police officer with the Dayton Police Department in Ohio prior to joining the FBI.
