David Ward

David Ward is the Regulatory, Ethics & Compliance Director of Tesco PLC, the UK’s largest supermarket operator. David is a qualified solicitor (England & Wales) and worked for Hogan Lovells and Shearman & Sterling before joining Tesco in 2004 as Senior Competition Counsel. David became UK Legal Director in 2011 and since 2013 David has held the role of Regulatory, Ethics & Compliance Director, leading a team of 20 colleagues based in UK/ROI with further teams in Central Europe and India. In his role, David is responsible for the design, deployment and effectiveness of Tesco’s corporate compliance programme, which encompasses risk areas including anti-bribery, conflicts of interest, sanctions, whistleblowing and gifts & entertainment, along with key assets such as the Tesco Code of Business Conduct, compliance policies, global training programmes, due diligence and compliance assurance. In addition to the compliance programme, David is also the Legal Director responsible for competition law and data privacy, leading the combined legal and compliance teams that manage those risks. David is also the Code Compliance Officer for Tesco under GSCOP, the UK legislation that regulates relationships between supermarkets and their grocery suppliers. David lives in London with his family
